Best acting doesn’t feel like acting, it feels like life. The strongest performances dont call attention to themselves. They feel lived in. My coaching is about clearing away the noise, so your natural instincts and truthful choices come forward. We’ll focus on honest connection, clear objectives, and leaving behind the urge to perform for the sake of performing. Every word you say will feel lived in so you can fully communicate the story.
Frank DeJulio is one of my first favorite actors. Truly. We met as company members for a theater company called The Living theater, an updated revamp of the topical experimental theater company from the 1940s. The work for The Living Theater was heavily improvised, and Frank was my favorite scene partner. Emotionally available, intuitive, hilarious, and radically present; I sometimes found myself awestruck at how vast an artist Frank is. Years later, Frank starred in a short I wrote that landed at the Cannes Film Festival. I have no doubt this was due in large part to Frank’s soulful work in the film. So much of the role of an artist is to go about the business of living. I implore my own mentees to seek out teachers who are the Living embodiment of this simple truth. Frank is living a full life, replete with the ups and downs that make us beautifully human. He’s become not only one of my favorite artists, but one of my favorite human beings as well.
